Toronto Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)

Get a firm, flat, and absolutely enviable stomach

Do you have any of these?

  • excess loose abdominal skin?
  • stretched out abdominal muscles that will not come together regardless of how many sit-ups you do daily?
  • have you ever found yourself in envy of a friend’s perfectly flat stomach and struggled with grueling workouts in attempt to attain a similar look?

Tummy tuck is NOT a replacement for a healthy diet and exercise, it IS a cosmetic surgery procedure to repair changes that no amount of exercise can.

Tummy Tuck or Abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure which removes excess skin and fat on the abdomen, tightens the abdominal muscles and can involve liposuction of the love handles and other areas in order to shape the abdomen.

Abdominoplasty is an elective surgical procedure involving the removal of excess fat and skin from the abdominal area in order to create a profile that is instantly more smooth and firm. The muscle layer is tightened, reshaping the abdominal wall and dramatically improving its appearance and strength.

Abdominoplasty is extremely effective in providing you with the visual results you long for, especially following weight loss or pregnancy. Call us at 416-834-6640 to schedule your consultation and learn about how we can help you reach your goals of a tighter, shapelier belly.

Abdominoplasty Surgery

Abdominoplasty or Tummy Tuck Surgery removes the excess skin and fat on the abdomen which can be easily pinched as seen on the above pictures. After that skin and fat has been removed, the remaining skin on the upper abdomen is released and pulled down, or redraped, over the open area to close it. In the end, skin is tightened, muscles are tightened (if needed), and the belly is flatter.

What Is a “Drain-Free” Tummy Tuck

“Drain-Free” Tummy Tuck is an abdominoplasty technique that Dr. Martin developed to improve the results of a traditional tummy tuck. The most obvious difference for patients is that there are no surgical drains left in the wound after the surgery. However the real difference is on the inside and is not visible from the outside. What you will notice is a faster recovery, less discomfort, lower and better hidden scar and a scar that is thinner than the one found in a traditional tummy tuck.

Am I a good candidate for a Tummy Tuck?

If you have excess skin and fat on your abdomen that you can hold in your hand, you most likely are a good candidate for a tummy tuck and would benefit from this surgery.

  • women who have excess skin and stretch marks which will not go away after pregnancy
  • patients who lost weight and now have excess skin and fat that fails to go away with exercise
  • patients with excess fat around their waist
  • patients who suffer from skin problems in the skin fold under the abdomen

An ideal candidate is a person who has loose skin which can be pinched.

An individual with a full abdomen which feels 'full' and doesn't have any loose skin may still be able to have a tummy tuck, but the abdominal protrusion will not be corrected.

For a person such as pictured above, weight loss prior to a tummy tuck would guarantee a much better result. Weight loss can be achieved either through a healthy diet and exercise, or through bariatric surgery. At Plastica, we have bariatric medicine doctors as well as bariatric surgery specialists who can help you loose weight before undergoing your tummy tuck.

Weight Loss

Abdominoplasty surgery is not the right treatment for those wishing to lose weight. If weight loss is your goal, we have certified dietitians who can advise you with an individual diet plan and exercise regimen. However, we understand that sometimes despite their best efforts, patients just can’t lose the excess weight and need the assistance of a surgeon. For those patients, Lap-Band offers an effective and lasting solution. Once you have completed your weight loss, you may become a candidate for a tummy tuck or a body lift.

Smoking

Smoking is a major risk factor for wound healing and infection complications after a tummy tuck. Smoking, aside from causing cancer, is a poison that impairs your immune system and deprives your body of oxygen. For this reason, especially in larger tummy tucks, there is an increased risk of wound breakdown and wound infection following the abdominoplasty surgery. Patients who are overweight are especially strongly advised against smoking two weeks before and two weeks after surgery.

How long is the Tummy Tuck Surgery?

The procedure takes 1-3 hours.

A tummy tuck surgery length depends on the extent of the work required. A slim patient with just skin excess who needs a tummy tuck may require only one hour of surgery, while someone large who has a lot of excess skin and fat and requires muscle tightening and possibly hernia repair can take up to three hours. In addition to the surgical time, you should plan on arriving about two hours prior to your surgery, and then spending about an hour to two hours after the surgery, recovering until you are ready to be discharged home.

Recovery from a Tummy Tuck

For ideal results from a tummy tuck surgery, plan on resting and taking it easy. First two days are usually most painful. After two days you should notice a dramatic improvement in how you feel. Because Dr. Jugenburg uses various innovative techniques, your discomfort is easily controlled with prescription medication only. During your recovery you should avoid strenuous physical activity, especially if your abdominal muscles have been repaired

Side Effects of a Tummy Tuck

Tummy Tuck surgery will leave you bruised and swollen. You will gain weight because of the retained water. It is normal to feel tightness and some pain along the scar line and along the repaired abdominal muscles (if muscle repair was performed)
