Toronto Body Lift

Thousands of Body Lift procedures are performed successfully each year and the results are generally quite positive.

Body lift surgery is a body contouring procedure designed for patients who have lost a large amount of weight and now are left with excess hanging skin around their waist. A body lift is more correctly referred to as a lower body lift. It 'lifts' the thighs and buttocks and flattens the abdomen. Research studies have shown that a body contouring procedure such as a body lift will significantly improve the quality of life of massive weight loss patients.

A circumferential body lift is the only way to remove and tighten the loose and sagging skin left behind by a massive weight loss. Non-surgical skin tightening procedures are guaranteed to fail in these situations. Body Lift surgery is the only effective means to address your problem. As such, this is an extensive surgical procedure and not all patients are good candidates.

To Schedule a consultation

Your Consultation

In your initial consultation, Dr. Jugenburg will determine the extent of your sagging skin. You need to be honest in discussing your expectations with Dr. Jugenburg and he will be equally honest with you in telling you what he will be able to achieve for you, describing your alternatives and risks and limitations of each option. Dr. Jugenburg will work with you to select the procedure that is right for you and will come closest to producing the desired body contour.

Body Lift Surgery

Body Lift surgery usually takes four to five hours, depending on the extent of work required. Surgery varies depending on your body size and the extent of skin excess you have.
All Post-Bariatric Body Lift procedures require incisions to remove excess skin. In many cases these incisions may be extensive. Incision length and pattern depend on the amount and location of excess skin to be removed and Dr. Jugenburg's surgical judgment.
Dr. Jugenburg's use of advanced techniques usually allow incisions to be placed in strategic locations where they can be hidden by most types of clothing, but this is not always the case.
Sometimes additional procedures or touch ups are required. While it may have taken you two years or more to lose all the excess weight, it may take equally as long for the results of your body contouring to be completed.

Recovery After Body Lift Surgery

After Body Lift Surgery you will have a tight garment over your mid-region. You will have several drains which are usually removed after two weeks. Swelling and bruising will be most noticeable after the first day and will slowly subside after that over a period of 2 to 3 weeks. It will likely take 3 months for all the swelling to subside and for you to see the final results. You will be give specific instructions on what position you need to stay in and what physical restrictions you need to follow to ensure your wound heal ideal.

Who can benefit from a Body Lift?

Following significant weight loss, patients are often left with large amount of excess skin which is circumferential around their waist. If you have excess skin on your abdomen, sides, and buttocks, and if you have droopy thigh skin, you may benefit from this procedure.

The best candidates for a Body Lift are men or women who are in relatively good health but are bothered by loose skin after their weight loss. They have stretched their skin beyond the point where they can return to normal.

A Body Lift can enhance your appearance and your self-confidence, but it won’t necessarily make you look like you never had the excess weight. Before you decide to have surgery, think carefully about your expectations and discuss them with Dr. Jugenburg.

What are the risks of a Body Lift?

Bodylift is a surgical procedure. Like all surgical procedure, there are general risks that apply to any medical procedure. With regards to bodylifts, there are special considerations that need to be taken into account. These include bleeding, infection, and fluid collections which may lead to the opening of your wounds. In rare cases an injury to deep layers may occur. If this occurs, you may require additional surgery to correct it. Deep Venous Thrombosis and Pulmonary Embolism can also occur. If suspected, they need to be treated aggressively because if left untreated, can be potentially fatal.
