Toronto Nose surgery ( Rhinoplasty )

Rhinoplasty surgery reshapes the nasal bones and cartilage. It has an impact on the appearance of the nose as well as breathing.
Rhinoplasty surgery involves a proper examination and diagnosis of the underlying problem. Only with a proper understanding of the underlying problem will lead to a proper surgical plan and a successful outcome.

Recovery after a Rhinoplasty

After surgery you will have a nasal splint covering your nose. It is meant to protect your new nose, and to help maintain its new shape. If you have nasal packing, it will be removed the following day. A nasal splint will have to be worn for 7 days after which it will be removed, however you will need to protect your nose from injury for the next 4 weeks to prevent it from accidently breaking. Once completely healed, the scars/incisions will be virtually unnoticeable. The swelling of the nose will resolve within 4 weeks, but you won't see the final result for a full year. Immediately following the surgery, swelling inside the nose will worsen nasal breathing. This will resolve slowly over the next few weeks.

Who can benefit from a Rhinoplasty?

Patients with difficulty breathing, deviated noses, or those who are unhappy with the general appearance of their nose. If this applies to you, you may benefit from having a rhinoplasty.

What are the risks of a Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure. Like all surgical procedures, there are general risks. Please read our information page on potential risks. With regards to rhinoplasty, there are special considerations that need to be taken into account. Following surgery the nasal bones will be susceptible to breaks if the nose is hit. Bleeding (especially in dry air) and infections are also possible risks. Occasionally, the nasal airway flow worsens. If you experience any of these issues, you may need additional surgery. Finally, since the nose plays a key role in overall facial appearance, after undergoing rhinoplasty it may take a while for you to become accustomed to your new look.
